5 Men’s Wardrobe Essentials

Khaki Pants: This one should be a no brainer. You’re a big boy now, so put your big boy pants on. You shouldn’t be going to work in jeans.

Solid, Single Color Jeans: Not faded. No holes; just high quality, classic denim. You’re not in high school anymore.

Grey or Navy Suit: This may be more of a matter of personal preference, but I choose a grey or navy suit over a black suit in just about any scenario. Job interviews, work weeks, and even a night on the town, the grey or navy suits any occasion. And, please guys, get it tailored. It is always worth the price.

Solid White Button Up: Go ahead and go crazy with your other dress shirts, just make sure you have at least one go-to white button up. Keep it crisp, keep it clean, and you will always have something classy to wear.

Dress Socks: One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing fully grown, adult men in athletic socks and no athletic shoes. Get dress socks. Get a lot of them. Get them in all sorts of colors, styles, and patterns. Get them in a comfortable material like cotton. Your feet will thank you. If you’re prone to sweaty feet (be honest), go with a wool blend, or, if really sweaty, 100% wool.

Three years later, Josh graduated with a degree in English and Philosophy, and, rather unsurprisingly, nothing to do with it. So he packed it up and headed to the San Francisco Bay area to work as a Residential Advisor at a college prep school for underprivileged, underrepresented youth. When he is not working with precocious teenagers, Josh enjoys reading (currently Joyce's Ulysses, and by "currently" I mean for the past 6 months), writing, and exhausting his Netfix queue. Josh's interests include men's fashion, poetry, early 20th century American Literature, movies, and television.

  1. The “Solid White Button Up” should form part of the staple in any grown man’s wardrobe. As for the Grey or Navy suits, they’re great, but here in sunny Cape Town, South Africa, we tend to go slightly more flamboyant with regards to our colour palette during the Summer season – think zesty yellows, lime greens and even flashy pinks, LOL, reserving the Greys and Navy(s) for Autumn/Fall. Thanks for the post
